Last Friday (which was also Christmas chapel and Christmas attire allowed in class), the Conceptual Physics students took part in the annual testing of the Toothpick Bridge Project with the goal of holding as many textbooks as possible over a 20-inch span. The students are only allowed to use wooden toothpicks and Elmer’s glue in their bridge construction. They started the project by exploring common types of stresses and strains on beam bridges and drafted blueprints for their bridges, including common design features used to minimize the effect of those stresses and strains. This year’s winning bridge held over 15 textbooks and was even able to support a student! #regentacademics #handsonlearning #physicsbridges

Each year in U.S. History, the seniors collaborate to build a large-scale sand map of Gettysburg, which was a major battle in the Civil War, then they present the project and history of the battle. Both classes did a tremendous job of demonstrating their depth of knowledge on the battle during last Friday’s presentations. #regentacademics #classicalchristianeducation #battleofgettysburg

It’s beginning to look (and sound) a lot like Christmas…. Chapel band led carols two weeks ago, followed by last week’s annual Christmas Chapel featuring carols from our Class 5 & 6 students as you entered the school and ending with preview performances from our band and choir. Catch more of the holiday spirit as we turn our eyes on Jesus, the reason for this amazing season, through His gift of music at tonight’s Christmas Celebration of the Arts stating at 6 p.m. #regentfinearts #christmasmusic #celebratingjesus❤️

FOCUS ON THE CLASSROOM: Our seniors are finishing their first semester strong. These are a few examples from the last couple of weeks: - In U.S. History they reviewed and discussed the reading (the seniors have a steady diet of Paul Johnson’s History of the American People) which talked about Abraham Lincoln. They also planned for building the Gettysburg Sandman, which is a highlight of the year for American History. Gettysburg is known as “The Turning Point of the Civil War.” - Their adventures in literature are currently centered on the end of “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” as they discussed social commentary on slavery, violence, and morality in 19th Century America. - In Anatomy, Class 12 worked on joint classifications of the skeleton and the movement associated with each joint. - In Calculus, seniors used what they have learned about derivatives and rates of change in order to anticipate, describe, and sketch curves. - In College Algebra they studied translations, reflections, stretches and compressions. These operations help them to analyze functions, and they also provide a metaphor for the life of a Regent senior! #focusontheclassroom #regentacademics #classicalchristianeducation

Before break Regent held its 25th Grandparents’ Day featuring a program entitled “America the Beautiful” which was a celebration of the United States and Regent’s grammar school history traditions. We walked through history from the days of the Ancient Greeks to modern day Oklahoma and experienced all five history days in one morning. After the program, students showed their grandparents their semester projects and the artwork hanging throughout the halls. May we be a blessing to our nation and may God bless our nation with peace. Thank you to all who spent the morning with us! FOCUS ON THE CLASSROOM: Our youngest students (Enrichment 2/pre-K) have already learned so much in their first year of school. Here’s a look at a few things they have tackled this November: - Practiced their hymn and scriptures for Grandparents Day - Finished our unit on Joseph, and beginning our unit on Moses in Bible. - Rhyming words, blending and unblending words, separating compound words, identifying consonant blends, and reading their first reader, “Hot, Hot, Hot”, in Phonics. - Sorting objects, creating and reading AB patterns, graphing, acting out story problems, and covering designs with pattern blocks in Math. - Learning about insects’ basic characteristics, beginning unit on butterflies, observing real caterpillars turning into chrysalises, studying the butterfly life cycle, and sequencing the stages of butterfly metamorphosis in their nature journal. #focusontheclassroom #regentacademics #classicalchristianeducation
